Roller Coaster Adrenaline Junkie

From Coaster Hater To Coaster Lover

Before this summer, I absolutely hated roller coasters and only enjoyed the crazy high-up swings at amusement parks (which is weird, I know). I was too scared to try something new because roller coasters simply seemed terrifying. However, this summer, something in me changed, and Zooey and mom ended up getting me to go to Six Flags with them. From that point on, roller coasters became my new favorite thing.

Six Flags Trip 1: Excited But Skeptical

For our first summer visit to Six Flags, I was excited but skeptical. I didn’t think I would like flying through the air, going upside down, feeling my heart go crazy, or going down big drops. But, as it turns out, I was very wrong. I love all those things!

The Dahlonega Mine Train

Mom and Zo somehow managed to get me on the wooden coaster, Mine Train. They said it would be a great starter coaster for me to ease into the experience. Again, I was doubtful, but I gave it a try. And then, I ended up riding it three whole times! I loved it! It was fast and hilly and fun, and I loved getting to scream out all my emotions with the adrenaline high.

The Joker Funhouse Coaster, Thunder River, & More

I was hooked. I began picking out the roller coasters we’d do next. We went on The Joker, went back to Mine Train, got on some fun, slow rides, enjoyed Thunder River, and so much more. We even did some crazy fast water park rides as well, jumping on tubes and splashing down slides. It was amazing! When it was time to leave, I immediately wanted to come right back.

Six Flags Trip 2: Wild Adrenaline & Birthday Celebration

Our second visit to Six Flags was even wilder! Mom went with us as I brought along my friend and birthday girl, Haley, and Zooey brought her friend, Lydia. First, we rode Mine Train, of course. Then, back to The Joker. Then, I found out Lydia was an experienced roller coaster rider, and she ended up getting me to ride my first ever upside-downer: Superman. I was nervous, but definitely ready to go all in.

Superman: Ultimate Flight & Blue Hawk

Superman was crazy! We got locked in and then tilted so that we were flying on our stomachs like the hero himself. It was super awesome and super fast as we were thrown on our backs to fly upside down, traveling down fast, steep drops and twisty turns. I absolutely loved it!

After Superman, we all headed down to Blue Hawk. A crazy tall, blue ride with awesome loops at a super fast rate. Haley and I got on, laughing as we did, and got ready to embark on this new ride. As we went up and up and...up, we were freaking out! We couldn’t see where the drop dropped, and all I could do was look out over the park at the moon in the sky and the sunset in the distance. Once we finally did drop, we screamed our heads off and laughed like crazy.

Thunder River x2 & Dare Devil Dive Coaster

After Blue Hawk, we walked over to Thunder River, and since there were almost no lines that day (must’ve been birthday magic), we got to ride it twice! Then, as we kept on walking, I spotted Dare Devil Dive Coaster. I was drawn to it. The high up, on your back, steep drop and all the twists and sharp turns with thrilling upside down loops just called to me. We got in the little 6 seat car and shot through the air. It was insane, absolutely thrilling! We rode that coaster twice as well, and would’ve kept going if the park wasn’t on its way to closing.

A Mind Bender Before We Leave

We finished our Six Flags adventure with Mind Bender (a ride I prefer to call "Back Bender" since the thing threw me around so thoroughly I actually felt my own back bend). It was super dark by then, and we couldn’t even see where we were going, only knowing we were upside down by the feel of our hair flying through the wind and our hands clinging for dear life. When we got off the ride, it was time to leave the park. We had such an amazing time together and couldn’t wait for next time.

Six Flags Trip 3: Tours, Memories, & More Journeys Ahead

My last visit to Six Flags during the summer was with just mom and Zooey again, and we actually went right after my Georgia State University tour (which was great, and is now my top public college choice). We went on our favorite rides again and took lots of pictures, laughing as mom was scared before almost every roller coaster.

Log Jamboree, Baby!

We even went on Log Jamboree, a little water ride I used to be terrified of as a child. We were sad to see the summer come to an end, but couldn't wait for the journey ahead, including our next trip to Six Flags.

A Risk taker & Six Flags Member

These summer trips to Six Flags taught me how important it is to try new things, even when you're scared! I was able to discover that riding roller coasters is one of my favorite things to do, and I am so grateful that I was brave enough to take risks. Not only did I learn I myself was a major dare devil who loves to enjoy every moment of life, but I even got my very own membership to Six Flags out of it, so I can go whenever I want.
