For The Love Of Pancakes, Parties, And The Past
Valentine's Day Party
Thursday, I got to be a part of the annual Valentine's Day Party for the self-contained special ed classes at CHS. Beforehand, I was asked to come to a meeting and decide which part of the party I would contribute to. My friend, Haley, and I decided we wanted to be a part of the food committee. We signed up to make a special treat and couldn't wait.
Pancake Time
Before the party started, Haley and I got to make pancakes for the party. I love making pancakes, so I knew it would be a great job for me to do. We got to baking and laughed at our crazy pancakes and Haley's batter covered clothes. We made lots of delicious pancakes and couldn't wait to present them to the kids.
Valentine's Day Wonderland
The decorating committee had made the room look like a Valentine's Day wonderland. There were red decorations and hearts all over the place, and it was perfect for such a loving and heart-filled holiday. The entertainment committee had great music picked out and it looked like there were going to be some fun games that the students would love. There were snacks brought in and our pancakes were fluffy and golden.
The students within the self-contained special ed classes were overjoyed and loved the food and decorations and entertainment of music, games, and dancing. You could tell that they very much appreciated what we did for them and loved our company and goodies.
Celebration Of Life
Haley and I felt incredible after the party. It felt so good to be a part of a tradition here at school that filled so many hearts with happiness and love.
Valentine's Day has always been one of my family's favorite holidays because, for us, it's about being with family and celebrating our love and appreciation for one another. It became an even more significant holiday, and also a difficult one, a few years back when my mom lost her younger brother the day before Valentine's Day to lung cancer. We decided to take what is a painful week and turn it into one filled with caring for one another and others through love and celebration of life.
Another Bright Light In A Dark Week
Adding another amazing event to fill my heart by volunteering at this party, truly did bring another bright light to a mostly dark week. I love bringing said light into those who need it most and look forward to doing it again. And to my family's departed, but never forgotten, loved one, happy Valentine's Day, Tony.
What an amazing post! Your Valentine's week was filled with so many emotions. I love reading your blog and I'm so proud of you for all you do to help others. It truly shows the kind of heart you have. Keep up the great work!!
