Prom 2k19!!!

Carnival Extravaganza

Here We Go!

Last weekend, was my very first high school junior/senior prom! It was themed as Carnival Extravaganza and was an absolute blast. The dance was filled with decorations, fabulous clothing, party games, dancing, desserts, and upbeat music. There were prizes to win, brownies to eat, pictures to take, and so much more. However, the celebration didn't just begin on the dance floor, but during the preparation it took to finally get there.

The Planning Begins

Group Picture: Shelley, Haley, & Me

The week before prom, I painted my nails gold, laid out my dress, picked out my jewelry, decided on my hairstyle, and planned literally everything else I thought of. I made sure my group knew the plans and everyone was included; we were very, very excited!

Rain, Hair, & Roses

Zooey & My Hair

The morning of prom, I did my daily exercise routine and ate a healthy breakfast before heading to my hair appointment. As my mom and I drove to our friend's house for my hair, we listened to music and wished to the rain gods that it would stop raining. Once there, Kim curled my hair and braided it back into a stunning fishtail braid, and mom got her hair curled since, as a teacher, she has to chaperone prom. On the way back, we stopped at Publix to grab some lunch, and mom surprised me with beautiful red roses!

Makeup, Dress, & Jewelry

The Sisters

At home, I sat down with my sister to get my makeup done; Zooey has always been very good at doing makeovers. She covered my eyelids in golds and light browns and put some highlighter on my cheekbones and nose bridge. I did my mascara and red lip gloss, lightly filling in my already shaped eyebrows as well.

The Roses

Finally, I put on my red dress and black heels, adding my gold earrings, necklace, bracelet, and rings to my prom attire too. We were all ready to begin the next stage of prom when my group started to arrive. Haley and her family came in, and Shelley and her's after that; we jumped back in our cars and headed over to my Aunt and Uncle's house on the lake to begin prom pictures.

Picture Time!

Family Time

Shelley & Me

As we arrived at my family's lake house, we headed down to the dock. The rain had stopped, but this particular April day was freezing! We were shivering in our dresses but made it through the pictures on the dock, near the flower bushes, and on the deck. We took group pictures, individual pictures, and family pictures. After the lake, we headed back to my house for more pictures in my front yard before shuffling into Haley's family car to head to our dinner reservation on the Square.

Dates!

Flowers, Flowers Everywhere!

Dinner On The Square

On The (cold) Square

Before our reservation, we took more pictures on the Square until it got too cold, seeing other prom groups taking pictures too. We walked over to La Trattoria for our prom dinner. I had a personal cheese pizza, Haley had chicken alfredo, and Shelley had ravioli. Everything was really good! After dinner, we had to kill time, so we walked around the Square until we decided to go to Underground Books. We looked at books and laughed until it was time to go to prom.

Golf Carts, Teachers, & Tables

It's Not A Prom Without Awesome Teachers & Friends

My Beautiful Mom & Me

Haley's mom dropped us off in the parking lot, where golf carts were waiting to take us right to the entrance. After the crazy golf cart ride, we headed into our first prom to sign in. Once inside, we walked in to find my mom and some of our favorite teachers waiting for us, so, of course, we had to take even more pictures! At first, not many people were at prom, but that didn't stop us from already dancing on the dance floor before picking out a table. When we did pick a table, we chose one close to the stage and dance floor and near the food tables.

Saying Goodbye To The Seniors

Dancing, Playing, & Staying All Night

Alexia, Shelley, & Some IB Kids

However, we didn't sit down all that much; we mostly just danced, played carnival games, talked, and took pictures all night. First, we danced to a few songs and talked to more friends. Then, we took a break and played games, collecting as many tickets as we could to claim prizes. Later, we danced some more, and I ate a really good chocolate covered strawberry. When it came time for senior walk, the dance floor cleared a bit and my friends decided they wanted to leave, however, that was not my mindset, for I wanted to stay until the very end!

Headed Home

Saying Bye To Haley

As the seniors were being honored, the dance floor was clearer and the music better. I went back on the dance floor, dancing with some friends and teachers. It was really awesome! Eventually, prom was coming to a close, and my feet were killing me enough that it was time to grab my bag of carnival prizes and head home. Mom and I caught a ride with our teacher friend, Marsha, and the 2019 prom was over.

A Fabulous Time

Loved My Dates!

Overall, prom was absolutely fantastic! I loved getting to dance all night and play carnival games. I loved being with my friends and partying with the teachers. I came home with a ton of prizes I got to share with my family and an endless supply of prom pictures to go through. It was such a great day, and I am so grateful to everyone I got to spend it with. I already can't wait for next year: my 2020 senior prom!
