Thanksgiving Break!!!

A Time Of Rest And Family

My 2018 Thanksgiving break was very chill, relaxing, and filled with movies and family. I started off my break enjoying time with family and with lots of sleep. After so many weeks of school, it was incredibly nice to be able to just rest and not have to worry about work. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because of the time spent with loved ones, the cooking, and the weather.

This year it was nice and cool, and was the first year since 2011 that it was only my mom, dad, sister, and myself celebrating together. It was sad to not have a house filled with family this year, but it was great just being able to have a laid back Thanksgiving instead of being hosts. Due to not having other family members join us, we were also able to do more activities.

Breakfast And Volunteering

On Tuesday, we went to Jerry's Country Kitchen for breakfast and then to the Carroll County Animal Shelter again to volunteer. We spent time petting and playing with three beautiful red cats and two black, shy kittens. Then, we spent time in the brisk weather to run around with the puppies kept outside.

There was an absolutely stunning white and red Husky that we played with for a while that was very sweet. However, we found out that he was one of the dogs whose owner was currently in the hospital due to the hurricanes and storms, and he had to be held in the shelter while, hopefully, his owner healed. The information filled me with sadness, and I wished for his owner's swift recovery so the sweet husky could soon go home.

After the shelter, we went home and I put on a movie that I watched until sleep claimed me for 16 hours. I was so tired and my body needed rest, not only from the day but from the past few weeks. When I woke up Wednesday, I exercised, read, and made a homemade blueberry pie for Thanksgiving the next day. I always help my mom in the kitchen and our special pies are always so delicious.

Thanksgiving Day

On Thanksgiving, we all got to cooking. I helped peel potatoes and cleaned up the house, while we watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. When we still lived in New York City when I was a little kid, my mom and I actually got to sit in the bleachers to watch the parade; my favorite was the Sponge bob float. That afternoon, we all ate, went on a walk to burn off some calories, went to see Creed II in theaters, and came home to eat homemade blueberry, pumpkin, and pudding pie.

Black Friday

On Friday, my mom, sister, and I faced Black Friday. We went to the mall and started to buy our family members Christmas presents. It was my first Black Friday, and I really enjoyed the challenge, the sales, and getting to find great gifts for my loved ones.

My Favorite Read

Throughout the week, I reread all the bookmarks I made over the years in my very favorite series, Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas in preparation for beginning the very last book in the series. It is a fantastic fantasy series I have been enjoying since eighth grade, so I reviewed all seven books so I would remember everything for the conclusion. Every character within the series is incredibly complex, and the main protagonists are inspiring, strong, and very easy to look up to.

As sad as I am that I won't be able to read and be a part of the characters journeys for much longer, I am very excited to see what happens in the end. I started the last book, Kingdom of Ash, on Saturday and spent all of Sunday reading until I had to help set up the house for Christmas.

Active And Happy

Overall, my Thanksgiving break was great. I was able to focus on myself and family, and spend time watching movies, cooking, reading, and decorating. I love getting to be active and happy over the longer breaks of the school year, and can't wait for my Christmas break with more family and celebration!
