The Great Outdoors Club

Outdoors Club

My high school offers an abundance of incredible and educational clubs. It has groups dedicated to service, honor, and even adventure. One adventurous group offered at CHS is called Outdoors Club. This was the first year I had heard of it, and immediately thought it would be a fantastic idea to become a member. During our first meeting, we were told our first journey would be to Sweetwater Creek State Park to hike. I had never been to Sweetwater, and couldn't wait to have a new experience.

Sweetwater Creek State Park

On our first trip, I wanted my mom to chaperone and drive my friends and me to Sweetwater. My family has always loved the outdoors, going on hikes, and swimming in waterfalls, so this was going to be a perfect escape for us. I already knew my friends Haley and Cirel were going on the trip, and I couldn't wait to meet more people. My mom drove all the girls on the way there, and we all talked to each other the whole time.

Once we finally arrived, we started on our first trail. Mr. Brewer, Austin, Haley, Cirel, Mrs. Chetti, myself, and more club members couldn't wait to begin our trek. We climbed on rocks and trees, up hills and trails, and in little spaces of dirt and roots. We constantly took pictures near the river and stared into the deep blue sky. Mr. Brewer's son even saw a snake!

Taking A Moment To Breathe

Being out in nature and walking along the grass and flowers and rocks is such a tranquil and beautiful experience. Getting out of the house and away from all the cars and sounds is such a spectacular way to spend a Saturday. Groups like Outdoors Club really help me to take a moment to myself and breathe. I'm able to relieve my stress and worries and appreciate nature and all the magnificent things that this world provides us with. Spending the day outside, getting to know great people, and getting in exercise are such amazing ways to be able to reflect and learn new things.

A Much Needed Lunch

After our long and tiring hike, we decided to all go to lunch together at Waffle House. After such a brutal climb, my waffle, eggs, and bacon might have been the best lunch I had ever had. We all sat together and shared our beautiful photos with each other.

A Spectacular Saturday

Overall, my first Outdoors Club adventure was an exciting success. Being able to spend time with my mom, one of my favorite teachers, old friends, and new friends was an incredible way to spend my day out in the splendor of Earth. I was able to connect with not only the people apart of such a great club, but also with the world around me. I can't wait for my next adventure out in the great outdoors with my new, wonderful club.
